Take me here, please!
I unlaced my shoes and peeled off my socks
Made sinking footprints in the soft sand
Scrambled like a child over dark, salt-coated rocks
Their craggy edges chafing my soles in a tough kind way
I picked up little scuttling crabs no bigger than my pinky nail
and shrieked in fear and delight
Dipped my toes into the lapping waves
And listened to their gossip, splish-splash, splish-splash, against the shore
I waded into the sea under a sky of tousled lilac and rose
And breathed deep of the sunset
Relished the bright coldness coming up my limbs
And wished the Earth might
turn more slowly.
